Photographic exhibition made by Erasmus students from Cluj Napoca, who through their shots, express their opinions about the city wherein they live and its inhabitants. During the opening event the young photographers will give details about the background of their works.

This project aims at both scrutinizing critically the concept of democracy and at looking for organizational forms that would make true democracy function in contemporary society. Having for guest the well-known critic and curator Attila S. Tordai, the discussions following the projection promise to be interesting, passionate and enriching at the same time.
“The Mixeducation of…”

The event will include mixing and use of world music instruments in a concert that aims at integrating various traditions in the urban atmosphere each of us is part of. Held by Rogga, Indjstione and Electroclown – special diversity – related mixes with “Animations citoyennes” projected on the background.

Film projection “Barthalo!”

The second most popular film of Transilvania International Festival 2009, Barthalo! is another Romanian/Hungarian artistic production that represents the prize-winning technique of using non-actors in making films. Its projection will be followed by discussions on the Roma community in Cluj moderated by Gabor Lali Lajos, a popular Transylvanian personality due to both his acting and artistic talent.

“Same Cluj, different worlds”

Street photographic exhibition made with photos taken by the inhabitants of Cluj belonging to different cultural and ethnic backgrounds is aimed at reflecting their views on the city they live in. The shots express the personal vision of the inhabitants on the multicultural and multiethnic character of the place they call “home”, be it Cluj, Kolozsvar or Klausenburg.

Guest: Eniko Vincze, professor and researcher in anthropology, feminism and the Roma minority, will talk after the projection.
The film was made as part of an anthropological study conducted on a Roma community in Orastie, Hunedoara county. Its main theme is the status of Roma women, defined by contexts such as birth, marriage, abortion, contraception, domestic violence and prostitution. The communicational barriers, marginalisation, the interactions and discriminations on a social and institutional level are portrayed through their own eyes.

One of the best European animations, Persepolis can be interpreted on many levels. As part of Transeuropa, it can be perceived as the film that clearly points out the difficulties of being yourself in a society whose only aim seems to be its contrary. However, all across it there are plenty of sparkles to be considered possible solutions.

A guided tour focusing on the places with important (and different) significance to the various ethnic communities in Cluj. Gabor Lali Lajos, the popular (non)actor in Barthalo! and the famous intellectual and Professor Ovidiu Pecican are the talented storytellers that will make the experience unique.

Conference of Ovidiu Pecican and a Chinese professor from the University

The well-known professor, analyst and artist Ovidiu Pecican is holding a course at the Babes-Bolyai University entitled “Europe and China”. These two great powers, cultures, partners and their challenging future will be the main entities whose relations his discourse will be built on. By debating with a Chinese professor, the discussion receives the dynamic character that can foster positive change in the pragmatics of these relations.

The famous British author of Ukrainian origin will have an interesting meeting with her readers in Romania, offering them the chance of developing the themes of identity and minorities present in her novels, of which one has already been translated into Romanian. The event will also include readings from the celebrated “A Short History of Tractors” and “Two Caravans”.
